Dad Accused of Shaking Baby in Front of Siblings: Arrest Details
A Florida father faces charges of aggravated child abuse after being accused of causing severe injuries to his 7-month-old son, including a near-fatal brain bleed.
Details of the Accusation
Anthony Lamar Hester, 31, is alleged to have subjected his son to physical abuse over an extended period. The investigation began on February 20 when the infant was admitted to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children with significant brain bleeding.
Investigation and Medical Findings
Medical personnel confirmed the presence of bleeding on both sides of the infant's brain, consistent with abusive head trauma. This led authorities to launch an investigation involving family interviews, which revealed ongoing abuse.
Witness Accounts
Witnesses, including children from the household, reported seeing Hester shake the baby multiple times. One child demonstrated how Hester would shake a stuffed animal while angrily yelling at it, mimicking Hester's alleged behavior towards the infant.
Further Developments
The victim's mother identified Hester as the sole caregiver during her work hours. Family members also highlighted Hester's history of anger issues and alcohol abuse. Previous incidents involving law enforcement noted his erratic behavior.
Hester is currently held without bond in Volusia County Jail and is awaiting his court appearance scheduled for May 21.
