Animal Activist's Mistake: Threw Restaurant Lobster Pet in Harbor

Share Post

An animal activist pled guilty in court after removing a lobster from a restaurant tank and releasing it into a harbor, which reportedly led to the lobster's death.

Emma Smart admitted to causing criminal damage on April 10 by taking a lobster from The Catch at the Old Fish Market. Restaurant owner Anthony Cooper mentioned that the lobsters, named Reggie and Ronnie, had been part of the establishment for over two years and were used for educational purposes.

Lobster Reportedly Died After Being Released

Court documents reveal Smart took the lobster from the tank fearing it would be cooked and released it into colder waters, likely resulting in its death. It had been accustomed to a controlled, warmer environment within the restaurant.

The second lobster reportedly died shortly afterward, possibly due to stress and isolation.

Court Issues Restraining Order

In court, Smart received a three-year restraining order barring her from approaching the restaurant after admitting to criminal damage. This case has captured attention as an intended rescue led to unintended consequences for both lobsters.
