Chrome's New Role Could Transform Office Jobs Forever
Google has introduced new AI-powered features in Chrome, aimed at enhancing productivity and security for enterprise users. These updates were announced during the Google Cloud Next event.
AI Features for Enhanced Productivity
The key feature is "auto browse," which uses Gemini AI to assist employees with routine tasks like booking travel, scheduling meetings, and entering information. It can also support more complex workflows such as updating a CRM or comparing vendor pricing across tabs.
This technology aims to minimize repetitive work so that employees can concentrate on strategic tasks. However, all automated actions will still require human approval before being finalized.
Security Enhancements
Google is also upgrading its Chrome Enterprise Premium security features. IT teams will gain tools to monitor unauthorized AI usage, compromised extensions, and suspicious activities dubbed “anomalous agent activity.”
A new function called “Shadow IT risk detection” allows administrators to identify both sanctioned and unsanctioned GenAI and SaaS tools used within their organizations.
Rollout and Partnerships
The new AI tools will first be available to Workspace users in the United States. Google assures that data from organizational prompts won't be used in training its AI models.
Additionally, Google is expanding its partnership with Okta and adding stronger controls for browser extensions alongside Microsoft Information Protection integration.
