Brian McKnight Takes Legal Action Against Son and Ex-Wife's Claims
Brian McKnight is taking legal action against several people, including his son and a media outlet, over accusations that he turned his back on his dying son. The singer claims these allegations are untrue and have damaged his reputation.
McKnight is suing his son Brian Jr., ex-wife Julie, bloggers Marc Lamont and Tasha K, and the New York Post for what he describes as a coordinated attack using false narratives. He insists the claims about him abandoning his son Niko in his time of need are fabricated.
Accusations Surrounding His Relationship with Son
The heart of the accusations involves claims that McKnight refused to tell his son Niko that he loved him before Niko's death. McKnight has called this narrative "shockingly dishonest" and explained it as an attempt to harm his character for financial gain.
Legal Action Against False Allegations
Apart from the abandonment claims, McKnight accuses Tasha K of making false statements online about him being involved with a minor. He clarifies that these accusations are without basis and part of a broader strategy to defame him.
The singer also states that these untrue stories have negatively affected his career, family life, and public image. Feeling he had no other option, McKnight decided to file a lawsuit seeking damages to restore his reputation. His son Niko passed away from cancer in May 2025.
