Royal Fans Upset Over New Queen Elizabeth II Statue

Share Post

A recently unveiled statue of Queen Elizabeth II has sparked backlash for failing to capture her likeness and beauty. Critics describe the statue as "boring" and not reflective of the monarch's grand legacy.

Controversial Design Changes

Unveiled on April 21 in honor of the late queen's 100th birthday, the statue depicts Elizabeth wearing her Garter robes. Originally, it was intended to show her on horseback, reflecting her passion for horses. The change in design has disappointed many fans.

Critics quickly voiced their dissatisfaction on social media, with one commenting that the new design is "boring and ugly," while another described it as "absolutely horrendous." Many believe a horseback depiction would have been more fitting.

Calls for a Rethink

Stephen Bayley, chairman of the Royal Fine Art Commission Trust, expressed the need for reconsideration, stating that the original proposal of Elizabeth on horseback would have better conveyed her grandeur and leadership.

Mixed Reactions within the Royal Family

Despite public criticism, King Charles has praised the new design as "fantastic" after viewing a scale model. Meanwhile, some continue to suggest alternative tributes that better capture Queen Elizabeth's legacy.
